It has been a very long time since I've purchased the packets of taco seasoning you find at the store. Someone shared this recipe so I gave it a try. It was great and NOT loaded with sodium. I use this all the time when making anything that requires taco seasoning. You can also alter the spiciness to your likeness. I also always have these ingredients on hand.
Taco Seasoning
1 tbsp chili powder
1/4 tsp each: garlic powder, onion powder, crushed red pepper, flakes dried oregano
1/2 tsp paprika
1 1/2 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp sea salt and black pepper
Mix all ingredients together and sprinkle over meat. See easy!
*I have used even less salt probably around 1/2-3/4 tsp.
**I do not buy my spices in the grocery store. To me they are quite expensive for the amount that you get. To me dried spices are dried spices, so I hit up CVS, Ocean State Job Lot, or other close out places where they run 88 cents to $1/container. They are generally a bigger container than you get at the grocery store too. Also spices do expire, so check the dates. Most only last 6 months to 1 year!
